call us on 01688 400682 search facebook youtube instagram twitter home find a cottage search by map gallery isle of mull wildlife & tours about us join us blog youtube google+ twitter facebook tigh na caora sleeps 7 £495.00 to £950.00 per week 4 reviews gallery reviews property info location rates check availability and book 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms friday changeover bed linen and towels provided wifi access pet friendly (maximum of two dogs, £10 each per week) winter breaks from £495 per week (no nightly rate) stunning setting ulva ferry explore the area, things to do and more tigh na caora has one of the finest positions you could wish for. it nestles into the wooded hillside facing west, above the southern end of loch tuath on the isle of mull’s west coast. it has outstanding views and is set well back above the road. this characterful family home has a really welcoming feel that keeps guests returning every year. after driving along the beautiful shoreline of loch na keal on your way to tigh na caora, you reach the area known as ulva ferry. this unspoilt region of the island, dotted with habitations, has an other-worldly feel, with a mix of moorland, rocky coastline and terraced hills that provide a beautiful backdrop and sanctuary for wildlife. the final approach to the house is via an old drover's road, though delightful atlantic oak woods. this setting shows off the isle of mull at its very best. tigh na caora is a detached stone cottage with a large lawned garden to the front, with views over fields toward the sea. there is parking at the rear. the house has been owned by the same family for decades and retains lots of features and quirks that characterise an older property, making it feel very much like a family home. this, coupled with the wonderful tranquil setting, makes this a really special, peaceful place to spend a week or so. entering the house, there is a spacious hall with lots of room for coats and shoes. a few steps lead from this floor level down to the other rooms on the ground floor. the kitchen in tigh na caora is filled with lots of natural light and is always warm and cosy thanks to the aga (there’s also a handy electric hob, too). a large dining table makes a lovely focal point for evening meals, and you will find a good range of tableware and pots and pans to use. double sliding doors open from the kitchen/dining room to a fantastic sun room that affords the most perfect views over loch tuath and the isle of ulva, with loch na keal and gribun in the distance. a door leads directly to the front garden. the living room is decorated with a lovely mix of antique and contemporary furniture and paintings, and guests have great views of the beautiful surrounds and sea in the distance from the windows here. there is a piano too, for those with musical flair. guests will appreciate the desk for catching up with work or writing postcards, and there is a very good selection of board games provided for family fun in the evenings. the wood stove is a great addition, and becomes a cosy focal point as evening approaches. a door leads out onto the front garden. also on the ground floor is a double bedroom, which has lovely sea views and storage space for belongings. a few steps lead up to the main bathroom with a bath, basin, large shower unit and w.c. a small single bedroom is also located on this level. upstairs, a landing leads to the master double bedroom, which again has great sea views, and is the most spacious of the bedrooms. the twin room is at the other end of the landing and also has lovely sea views, so wherever you sleep, you’ll wake up and know instantly that you’re on holiday. the upstairs bathroom has a large shower unit, basin and w.c. from the cottage door, a track leads up the hill to the summit of beinn na drise, a rewarding walk that offers fantastic views out to sea. opposite the start of the cottage track you can cross a field to reach the shore of loch tuath. nearby places to eat include the boathouse café on the isle of ulva, which serves excellent seafood and can be combined with an exploration of ulva itself. ballygown restaurant lies to the north and has an excellent reputation for delicious home cooking that celebrates the best of mull’s local produce. tigh na caora sits within the loch na keal national scenic area, one of mull’s most dramatic and beautiful regions that is a great place to see wildlife. boat trips exploring both staffa and the treshnish isles can be taken from ulva ferry (just a few minutes away). dervaig is the closest village -
